Welcome to the Four Wheel Drive Club
of Southern Africa – KZN Branch
The Four Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa is a family orientated recreational 4×4 club that stands for responsible off-road driving. Our club is involved with family outings, off-road challenges, driver training, camping trips and environmental conservation. The Four Wheel Drive Club is the largest four wheel drive club in Southern Africa and is not restricted to any single type of vehicle. The club offers prospective first time 4×4 vehicle buyers guidance on which 4×4 will be most suitable for them by drawing on the experience of veteran members. For new members who already own a 4×4, it is an opportunity to learn about their vehicle, off-road driving and a good place to meet like-minded people whilst having fun at the same time. The Four Wheel Drive Club was established in 1972 and now consists of nine individual branches of approximately 4000 members. The KZN branch was established in 1987 and has approximately 150 members at present.
About Us
Welcome to the Four Wheel Drive Club of South Africa – KwaZulu Natal. We are a non-profit outdoor club based in Durban, KZN. Our mission is to promote and enjoy the thrill of off-roading while fostering a sense of community among enthusiasts. With a passion for adventure and a commitment to responsible off-roading, we organize regular events, provide training and support, and advocate for the preservation of our natural environment. Whether you are a seasoned off-roader or new to the world of four-wheel driving, we invite you to join us and explore the breathtaking landscapes of KwaZulu Natal together.
Our Activities
Outings and trails
At least once a month, normally last Sunday of the month and long weekends as per the events calendar, a day outing to areas where the terrain requires nothing less than a 4×4 vehicle is arranged. On every outing there is an experienced driver/organizer that is in control to ensure that obstacles are negotiated safely and with care to the environment.
Noggins
Our monthly get together, usually on the third Thursday of the month, where members can get to know each other a little better…outside the driver seat. This usually takes the form of a presentation by one of the members on past adventures or interesting topics, followed by a braai.
Driver Training
Driver Training courses are offered by the club and are required to be attended by all members. These are daylong courses where you will be provided with a booklet covering both mechanical and terrain information. After a theory class, it is out to put your new found knowledge to the test. These courses are an essential starting point for many members. Both women and men are welcome. You will be presented with a certificate at the next meeting. There are also advanced driver training courses offered.
