Thanks to Kevin for supplying the info below which will help members understand how points are allocated at a challenge.

POINT SCORING PROCEDURE AS PER NATIONAL CHALLENGE SERIES

1. Points will be awarded for each event as follows:

1.1. Five (5) points for starting an event.
1.2. Allocation of class points to competitors, within their specific class, are as follows:

1st  -  30points
2nd  - 25 points
3rd  -  20 points
4th  -  16 points
5th  -  12 points
6th  -  10 points
7th  -    8 points
8th  -    6 points
9th  -    4 points
10th  -  2 points

2. If any class draws less than six (6) starters, the allocation of class points for that specific class will be as follows:

2.1. Five (5) starters:

1st   -  25 points
2nd  -  20 points
3rd   -  16 points
4th   -  12 points
5th   -  10 points

2.2. Four (4) starters:

1st   -  20 points
2nd  -  16 points
3rd   -  12 points
4th   -  10 points

2.3. Three (3) starters:

1st   -  16 points
2nd  -  12 points
3rd   -  10 points

3. In the case of a tie on an event, the following procedure will be followed.

3.1. For the purpose of championship points to be awarded, class points for the positions the competitors would have achieved if it wasn’t a tie, will be added together and divided equally between the competitors.

REMEMBER THAT ALL VEHICLES WILL BE SCRUTINISED BEFORE THE EVENT FOR SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

*       Seatbelts must be fitted and secure;

*       Seats must be secure to the body;

*       Open roof vehicles must have a roll cage attached to the chassis – minimum standard would be roll bar over windscreen, and behind front seats, with cross braces;

*       Brakes to be operational;

*       Steering must be operational, and free off excessive play;

*       No alcohol to be consumed during the challenge, or during lunch.

THE USE OF HELMETS IS RECOMMENDED DURING MOTOR SPORT EVENTS.  FROM THE 3RD CHALLENGE OF 2009, HELMETS WILL BE MANDATORY IN ALL OPEN ROOF VEHICLES.

The Rules:

*       Each obstacle has a 60 point value;

*       The event works on negative scoring;

*       A roll-back (wheels turn backward in order to gain advantage) constitutes a loss of 10 points (60 – 10);

*       Striking a banner constitutes a loss of 20 points (60 – 20);

*       Once a banner has been struck, it is considered dead in terms of striking it again, but is still alive in terms of the boundaries of the obstacle;

*       A maximum of 3 roll-backs are permitted between gates – thereafter if no progress is made, this constitutes an Abandon route (loss of all 60 points);

*       The vehicle may exit the obstacle between gates and return to the obstacle between the same gate without losing points, only if the vehicle did not cross any off it’s own tracks, unless a roll-back is taken (loss of 10 points);

*       On start of each obstacle, the centre of  a front wheel must be on the line between the start gate;

*       At the start gate, only 1 wheel may be outside the gate (loss of 20 points) – any more constitutes an abandon route;

*       At the exit gate and at any other gate within the obstacle, only 2 wheels may be outside the gate (loss of 20 points) – any more constitutes an abandon route;

*       Any outside assistance as in directions (except from Co-driver), pushing of vehicle, holding vehicle down etc, would constitute an abandon route.
