I suppose that there will be many of the members out there who will be following the thrills and spills of the Dakar Rally. Click on the link below to get the latest results; http://uk.yahoo.eurosport.com/rallyraid/dakar/calendar.shtml
For those that are unable to watch it on TV, you can access the latest DVD’s on YouTube by typing in Dakar 2012 and the stage. Select which stage you would then like to watch in the comfort of your chair.
Also be aware that there will be a Regional 4x4 Challenge on the 4th February 2012. I’m unsure where at this stage but will keep you posted.
I’ll be posting more news next month in Traction.

REMEMBER:-
Handicap system for all vehicles
The handicap
system should operate as a true handicap system.
The idea
behind handicapping the standard class vehicle’s, is to level the playing fields
for all competitors and hopefully attract new entries because of the new system.
Ø E.g. would the owner of a long wheel base Bakkie want to come up against a Jeep Wrangler with 33 inch tyres and a rear diff lock?
All standard
vehicles, no matter what the handicap will do exactly the same obstacles as each
other.
All obstacles
will have a starting value that’s equal for each competitor no matter what the
handicap value is.
All
competitors, no matter what the handicap value is will do exactly the same
number of obstacles.
At the end of
the challenge, the handicap value will be deducted from the competitors overall
score. The remaining value is then what the competitor has scored for the day.
Handicap items
ü Short wheel base. 50 points
ü After Market Suspension. 20 points
ü Tyre size over 31” for every inch over. 10 points
ü Bumper Replacement Bar. 10 points
ü Removal of front bumper 10 points
ü Front Diff lock. 25 points
ü Removal of Side steps. 10 points
ü Traction Control 25 points
ü Body Lift. 10 points
In addition to the above, a further 10 point penalty will be given for the lack of each of the following. This is in an effort to get our members attuned to always carrying their fire extinguishers, recovery equipment, and highlift jack, also ensuring proper recovery points are fitted to their vehicles.
Any comments and or suggestions will be welcome, and will be given due consideration.
Please note that the technical team on the day will make all “judgment” calls, and these decisions will be considered final. For any further information, clarity, or if you intend participating, please feel free to contact me on 082 8837 482.
Happy Wheelin’
